Glitter or Glow: Shimmertints

Highlighters - my favorite beauty product to play with (aside from a high creamy concealer to hide my blemishes). Ain't nothing better than a glow to make you feel like you've got the goods to conquer your day. Now highlighter has been a constant staple for makeup artists and enthusiasts for the past few years and the range of color and formula makes picking the perfect glow for any lad or lass a tad overwhelming. Highlighters differ from colors (based on skin tones all the way up to holographic rainbow shades), formulas (pressed powders, loose powders, liquid, cream & jelly) and finish (chunky glitter, dewy wet sheen). It all comes down to your personal preference; do you want to 'glow to the gods' or 'glow from within'?
Colourette Cosmetics has released their debut liquid highlighters on March 9, for the whole beauty community to indulge and I was very lucky to be one of the first people to give them a whirl. Without further chitchat, I present to you.. DRUM ROLL PLEASE... the SHIMMERTINTS.
I'm not being biased and all but highlighters are my thing and anything that's shiny is a go for me. Boy oh boy, was I ecstatic when I heard the news about these gems! The Shimmertints complete the multi-purpose TINT goodness - Colourtints, Contourtints and Shimmertints. Although they aren't really tints, you get the gist. As they claim, it's the crowd favorite formula in its glowing variant.

CRYSTAL PRISM - nude champagne gold glow
ROSE QUARTZ - rose gold cool toned glow
YELLOW DIAMOND - yellow toned glow
TIGER'S EYE - bronze, tan glow

FORMULA: Since this product is oil based, you will need to give this a good 'shake and roll' since the pigment tends to sit at the bottom. The first time I opened the product, I saw that chunks of pigment had clung to the brush, making it sprawl out a bit. Not to worry, it went away when I gave it a good shake. SHAKING IS KEY. For better payoff, you'd want to give it a real good thrashing to avoid having just a small amount of glow and a whole lot of oil (not that the oil is a bad thing because we looove that nutrition). The consistency is very runny AND very fast drying so you will have to work fast with the areas. One of the many reasons why I love this product is because of the main natural products - Argan Oil and beeswax. I have dry skin so I need that extra TLC.
CLAIMS:
According to the company, they curated four (4) universal shades perfect for all Filipina skin tones. They also claim that the payoff is more of a 'wet glow from within' look rather than a chunky glittery highlight that some people try to avoid. Personally, I have noticed that these Shimmertints CANNOT be used as a highlight for everybody as they will leave strips of color that stand out because of various skin tones BUT because of their famous multi-purpose claim, it's use is not limited to just highlight. i.e. ROSE QUARTZ can be used as a blush for fair skin tones. TIGER'S EYE can be used as a bronzer, CRYSTAL PRISM can be used as an eye shadow, YELLOW DIAMOND can be used as a nice lip topper or a glow mixer for foundation. The possibilities are practically endless making this a well-loved versatile product!
PACKAGING
Like the packaging of the beloved Colourtints and Contourtints, the Shimmertints come in a sleek 12 gram glass bottle with the Colourette branding on one side and the shake me up real good on the other side. with the regular nail polish type brush applicator.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
To see the greatest potential of the Shimmertint, I would suggest to really give it a good shaking. Apply a couple of dots on the desired area and tap the product into your skin with your fingers. I find that swiping the highlight gives it a more subtle sheen rather than patting it into the skin.

FINAL VERDICT
THE GLOW IS IN AND IT'S HERE TO STAY! I think it's safe to say that glowy looks are MAJOR this year and for the next trend season to come. People are dropping the matte looks for fresh natural dewy skin. I've been searching high and low for cream and liquid products because I find that my skin handles it better than powders and overly-chemical products. With dry skin like me, I can rely on oil based products more to make me not look like the Sahara Desert. A few drops into foundation or spreading it over desired areas before bb cream application gives such a healthy glow that I am living for. I'm done with the bold highlight era and I'm comfortably snuggled into this one. These babies work like a high-end product sent from heaven and what makes it even better is the affordable price. I only own one high-end liquid highlight - Becca Opal and it's safe to say that the Shimmertints can keep up with the competition. No chunky glitters, just pure glow. 8/10 because the shelf life is not as long as the Colourtints which makes me have to use it everyday so I can get the most out of it.. Not that I'm complaining. I want to look like a freshly glazed donut.
